Welcome

My name is Jennifer McCarron, and I am a special education teacher. This site provides an ePortfolio of my Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) knowledge and skills. My specific interest in exploring the IDT field is my interest in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), which is a focus area under the Assistive Technology (AT) umbrella. Learning more about Educational Technology is also a key part of my interest in IDT because I work in a virtual school setting. I hope this website presents a helpful overview of my IDT strengths and abilities.

Two artifacts are embedded at the end of this section for your reference. One is a paper on my educational philosophy and technology vision, which was written as a culminating experience for our course, Foundations in IDT. The second paper is my technology skills development plan, which I will continue to develop as part of my career plans relating to IDT.

If you have any interest in exploring the field as well, the IDT program at California State University, San Bernardino, has its own website with valuable information on the program. Feel free to click the link below to access information on CSUSB’s Master’s Degree and IDT Certificate programs, helpful resources, graduate and alumni community news, and frequently asked questions.

IDT Impact

As a special education teacher for students with the most profound disabilities, I have years of experience working with service providers and assistive technology (AT) devices to support my students in accessing the curriculum and improving their adaptive living skills. Because of my interest in AT, I added a foundational course in Instructional Design and Technology (IDT) to my Master’s in Special Education program plan. Another reason I was interested in the course was because after years of teaching in a brick-and-mortar school, I have recently moved to a fully virtual setting, teaching at an online charter school. Little did I know that taking this elective course would launch an entirely new outlook on my career in education. The concepts and skills that I learned set me on a path to move forward with the changing digital world, as I embrace the expansive opportunities it holds for teaching my students in a more integrated and individualized way.
